The purpose of the English Language training is to both prepare students for study in Australia, and assist them with the International English Language System Test (IELTS). MASP will provide all ADS scholarship recipients with an appropriate level of English training in Mongolia. The length of the training will be determined by the level of English language proficiency of the student and training will range from 12 weeks to 36 weeks.
Obligations of MASP scholarship applicants’ during Pre-Departure Training in English Language are:
- Regularly attend classes (approximately 90% of the hours allocated for training).
- Participate in pre-departure training programs.
- Spend the required number of hours studying independently or in small groups supervised by the English language service provider.
- Practice the English language skills prior to pre-departure at every opportunity.
- Undertake and complete all assignments of the course.
- Sit IELT and to achieve a score of 6.5.
- Develop a Portfolio to take to Australia to present to the IAP course provider when you arrive at your university. (This provides evidence of what you have covered in Pre-Departure Training to the IAP instructors).
The Pre-Departure Training in English Language comprises three consecutive courses:
- The first commences in November each year. The courses are of three (3) months duration with courses one and two being conducted part-time with course three being full-time.
- Successful applicants will be advised of the commencement dates of these courses.
- A selected ADS applicant with an IELTS score of 5.0 or 5.5 will be required to attend all three courses.
An applicant with an IELTS score of 6.0 would attend at least courses two and three. All successful applicants musty attend course three.
The courses are:
Course 1: Advanced General English
Course 2: English for Academic Purposes
Course 3: English for Academic Purposes and IELTS Preparation.
Course three also involves an introduction to Australian culture and study methods and what the candidate
could expect studying in Australia. Importantly, course three also involves information surrounding the
preparation of
the students Action Plan which will form the basis for performance monitoring on return to
Mongolia following graduation.
Scholarship applicants who have an IELTS score of 6.5 or above with a minimum of 6.0 in each band, will depart for Australia in January or May of the following year. |
